Jimmy Hurd has served as a full-time minister with the Churches of Christ for over 28 years.


He is a graduate of Seattle Pacific University and the University of Washington. After completing the Master of Health Administration degree in 1981, Bro. Hurd entered the field of hospital administration.  He entered full time ministry in 1988 serving his home church, the Holgate Church of Christ in Seattle, Washington for 15 years. He then went on to serve as the minister of the Oakland Church of Christ in Southfield, Michigan, (located in the Detroit area) from 2003-2011. Following his ministry in Michigan, he served as the preaching minister of the Cordova Church of Christ in Rancho Cordova, California (near Sacramento) for five and one half years. He began serving the Holgate Street church in September of 2016.

Bro. Hurd has had over 20 years of effective ministry and leadership experience with churches, hospitals, nonprofit, government and military organizations.  He is a former Medical Service Corps Officer in the US Navy, a former executive director of a non-profit health organization, diversity instructor, and is a featured speaker at the workshops of preachers of Churches of Christ in Ethiopia.

He and his wife Jacqui have been married for over 38 years. They have two children, Talia Cotton and Richmond Hurd and two grandsons, Christian and Connor Cotton.
